I believe that it is literally impossible and cognitively dissonant to consider oneself a feminist and still think that circumcision is okay. Circumcision is a way of telling males, from birth, that they are expected to be tougher than females and should be able to put up with more pain, even if it includes mutilation. Furthermore, it tells them that their pain is irrelevant and women in every way, down to their genitalia, are more delicate and important than they are. Girls are protected by law from all forms of genital mutilation, but we tell our boys they won’t be protected and might even be put in harms way, just because we feel like it. Equal rights are just that, equivalent, not surpassing. Baby boys every where should have the right to whole and happy genitalia. It’s not just archaic, it’s disturbing, sexist and totally wrong.
Although, I agree with some of the points in this post. I find it really interesting that men really believe they are subject to sexism. More disturbing is that it’s coming from a rather well informed sexual education tumblr.
OHKAY. I’m really glad I’m not the only one that side-eyed this a little.
